The frequency of Factory Medical Officer (FMO) visits in Gujarat is determined by the number of workers employed in the factory, as per the Gujarat Factories Rules, 1963. Here's a breakdown:

• Up to 50 Workers:

• No requirement for a dedicated FMO.

• A fully equipped first-aid box must be readily available.

• 51 to 200 Workers:

• Requires a part-time FMO.

• The FMO must visit the factory at least twice a week.

• The FMO must be readily available during medical emergencies.

• A qualified and trained dresser-cum-compounder must be on duty throughout the working period.

• A fully equipped first-aid box must be available in all departments.

• Over 200 Workers:

• Requires a full-time FMO for factories employing up to 500 workers. An additional FMO is required for every 1000 workers or part thereof.

• An Occupational Health Centre with at least two rooms, each with a minimum floor area of 15 square meters, must be established.

• The centre must be adequately lit, ventilated, and equipped as per the schedule annexed to the rule.

• Requires additional staff including:

• One trained nurse

• One dresser-cum-compounder

• One sweeper-cum-ward boy ...all throughout the working period.

Important Notes:

• The FMO must be a qualified medical practitioner with an MBBS degree and a certificate of Training in Industrial Health recognized by the state government (minimum 3 months).

• The Factories Rules also specify additional requirements for factories carrying on hazardous processes, such as having an Occupational Health Centre with specific services and facilities.
